    Relays

Relays are events where four different team members swim different parts of the event as a team. Because it takes four swimmers to make a relay, it is very important that everyone that is in a relay shows up on time and remains at the meet until all their events are complete. Failure of one swimmer to be present for the event can cause the other three to lose their opportunity to swim that relay. We will try to form as many relays as possible, but there are often not enough available swimmers to get everyone in an age group on a relay team. There are limitations on swim ups and other options. For this reason, being on a relay team is not guaranteed and is a privilege. Some factors that go into relay selection or to have a particular stroke in a relay include: seed time, skill in a stroke, practice attendance and attitude, and reliability to be at a meet on time. It is considered bad manners to complain about being put into a relay or about being asked to swim a certain stroke. Someone has to swim it, and if you were selected, there is a reason. If your swimmer doesn't want to participate in relays, that can be communicated when registering for the meets in the Notes to Coach section.

Free Relays: Typically the first events of the meet and all swimmers swim the Freestyle stroke.

Medley Relays: Typically near the end of the meet. Swimmers in the Medley Relay are in the following order: 1) Backstroke  2) Breaststroke  3) Butterfly  4) Freestyle
