When Should I Arrive at a Meet?

Swimmer check in starts approximately 1.5 hours before the meet. For example, if the meet has a listed start time of 8:00 AM, your swimmer should be at the pool at 6:30 AM for check in, whether home or away. Home team warm-ups start approximately 1 hour before meet start time. There are also several volunteer positions that are pre-meet and should be at the pool no later than start of check-in, and preferably 15 to 30 minutes before to prepare for their jobs and be ready for the first arrivals (e.g. swimmer and volunteer check-in and parking director). First half volunteers should be at the pool no later than 45 minutes before the meet start time. This should generally not be a problem if your swimmer is on time. There is plenty to do to prepare for the start of the meet even if your job is completely ready. It is not acceptable to arrive at 7:50 (or later) for an 8:00 AM meet start time - for either swimmers or first half volunteers. This causes significant stress on the coaches, volunteer coordinators, console, league representatives, and meet director, especially if your swimmer is in an early relay event or your volunteer position is meet-critical.
